Luxury Freestanding Bath Collection

 

 

 

History

The StoneKAST legacy began in 1992 as a small team of stone carvers from Cape Town who shared a fascination of limestone, and it’s historic contribution to world architecture. With experience in creating bespoke bathroom basins, the StoneKAST team focused their attention to limestone basin manufacturing. The mission was simple, to create an elegant range of beautiful and luxurious basins with timeless appeal. This led to a small collection being introduced to the designer bathroom market in South Africa, the first being the Picolo. In 1998 StoneKAST designed and manufactured the very first StoneKAST limestone bath which shared the same organic shape and name as the Picolo basin. Identified as having a European appeal, the bath was launched in the UK market later that year and the focus of the brand turned to the freestanding bath market.

 

 

Evolution

Due to the size, weight and cost of the original StoneKAST bath, the decision was made to explore new ways of manufacturing a more widely obtainable product. After consultation from one of the leading bathroom industry tycoons, StoneKAST relocated to Switzerland and embarked on a 3 year research and development program which resulted in a fresh manufacturing process and design concept. A high grade resin compound was created and a process was put in place to remove impurities from the raw limestone, resulting in a careful blend of natural and engineered compounds. A sustainable, non porous and anti bacterial surface layer was added to create the advanced StoneKAST material that you see today.

The thickness of the bath shell was also reduced to the now distinguished 25mm. A prototype was created for the now widely known Ovale bath which paved the way for a successful product relaunch in 2008 with 4 stunning and innovative bath models (Ovale, Quadrato, Cocoon and Geo), along with a rework on the original Picolo basin (renamed Uni). The relaunch also saw the inclusion of a ground breaking seamless overflow design, allowing the baths to conform to New Build Regulations whilst at the same time fulfilling the minimalist design appeal. Since then, a further 4 models have been released (Pebble, Petite, Classic and Oasis) with KBB London 2011 providing StoneKAST with the perfect platform to showcase the new designs.

2012 will see the launch of matching basins for every bath model.
